Arch Support Shoes for Women: Supportive, Stylish and Never Frumpy

For a long time, arch support shoes meant one thing: chunky, old fashioned and frumpy. Those days are over. Today you can find women's shoes with arch support in styles you would actually choose to wear, including long and wide fits.

What arch support does

Your arch works as a natural shock absorber for the foot. A shoe with a contoured, supportive footbed gives the arch something to rest on, so your weight is spread more evenly across the foot. If your feet ache at the end of the day and you kick your shoes off the moment you get home, that is a good sign it is time to look at what is underneath you.

What to look for in women's shoes with arch support

  • A contoured footbed. The inside of the shoe should rise to meet your arch rather than sit flat.
  • A firm heel counter. The back of the shoe should hold your heel steady. If it collapses when you squeeze it, it will not support you well.
  • Cushioning. A soft, cushioned base takes the edge off hard floors and long days.
  • The right length and width. Support only works if the shoe fits. Your toes need room, and your heel should not slip.
  • A removable insole. If you wear orthotics, you can swap the insole for your own.

Supportive shoes in every style

Supportive does not mean boring. Our comfort shoes and walking shoes are chosen for cushioning and support, and you will find supportive styles in our dress shoes and casual shoes too. If you wear orthotics, start with our orthotic shoes, and if standard shoes feel tight, browse our wide shoes.

A note on foot pain

Shoes can make a real difference to everyday comfort, but they are not a treatment. If you have ongoing foot pain, see a podiatrist or other health professional.
